Capture Clients and peripheral specifications

BioRegistra Android Capture Device and Peripherals

After setting up a project on the portal, you are expected to download the Client (either Android or Windows) and capture. If you prefer to capture using an Android device, download the application from the Google Playstore here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seamfix.bioregistra  and install. Be sure to use a device that is compatible with the application. Also, you will need an external fingerprint scanner and an OTG converter to use on the android device. Launch the application to start capturing.

After downloading the installer, run the Install wizard. Ensure to install all the applications in the package.

Note that the following need to be in place during the initial setup of the application:

  • Ensure the device is connected to the internet for a background device tagging
  • Ensure the time on the device is correct as this information is used to tag the device

Sign in as Agent or Admin

As an admin or Agent, you can sign into the BioRegistra Android mobile capture client. To sign in, use your email address and password.

Setting Default Project

When you log in for the first time you will be required to select a default project. What this means is that this project will be loaded automatically on your next sign in among all your projects. You can always change your default project in the Settings menu. To change your default after you have logged in:

  • Draw out the Nav drawer and click on Settings menu
  • Click on Set Default Project
  • Locate the project, click the option icon, and click on Default
  • This will set the project as your default project

Agent Dashboard

When signed in, you will be landed in the dashboard. This view shows a summary of your activity on that device – how many captures have been done, how many synced successfully, how many failed, and how many are pending sync. This allows you easily know your activity on the device. For the failed synchronizations, you can click on the card to see the reason(s) for failure.

Capturing Records

The basic functionality performed by the agent is capturing data into a project. To start capturing, click the Enrol button on the dashboard or click the Capture menu in the Navigation drawer.

Capturing a Project with Pre-Identifiers

If a project requires a pre-identifier before it can be captured (read section 2.2.4), then the user has to provide an identifier first before capture can begin. The system checks to confirm that

  • The pre-identifier entered exists
  • The identifier has not been enrolled already
  • The agent has the right to capture that pre-identifier

Capturing Demographics

Once you have provided a correct Pre-identifier (if the project needs one) or clicked on Enrol, you will be taken to the Textual form of the project. This is called Demographics. You will notice that the form has taken the configuration that were done on the portal for that project.

Capturing Portrait

After filling all demographic information, click on Continue to proceed to capture any portraits that might have been configured. If the project has no portrait configured, then you will be taken to the fingerprint screen (if any) or shown a success message. The compulsory portraits must be captured while the optional ones can be skipped.

For compulsory portraits with validation ON, agent can ignore validation when taking a picture and provide a reason why it was ignored. Note that the ignore functionality must be turned ON from the portal before the agent will be able to ignore. Some typical ignore reasons are: User has only one eye, etc.

Capturing Fingerprint

After capturing your portraits, you will need to capture the required fingerprints. Note that you will need to connect an external fingerprint scanner as android devices don’t come with any. Use an OTG cable (see image below) to connect the scanner to your phone. Ensure your android device supports OTG cables as not all Android devices support it. Capture all fingers, one by one, and proceed.

For compulsory fingerprints with validation ON, user can skip capturing a particular finger and provide the reason why it was skipped. Skip reasons are usually created from the portal. Note that the skip functionality must be turned ON from the portal before the agent will be able to skip. Some skip reasons that could be created are: Aged finger, No/Poor print, Amputated finger, etc.

Data Synchronization

After capturing fingerprint, click on Submit to save the record. If your account has sufficient balance, the record will sync to the BioRegistra backend servers successfully and a notification will be displayed to inform you of this. If the wallet balance is insufficient, an email will be sent to inform you of insufficient funds. However, please note that you have not lost your data as this will be synced to the backend servers automatically once you top up your wallet on the portal.

Checking Device Report

After capturing, you can check a quick report of what has been captured and its sync status (if it has synced to the BioRegistra servers or not). To run device report, do the following:

  • Draw out the Navigation drawer and click on Report menu
  • Select your filter if required by entering a keyword and a start and end date to search
  • Click on Search button
  • The result summary is displayed with the sync status
  • If turned ON from the portal, user can also click the View Record link to see the full detail of what was captured, rather than just a summary

Settings on Android

You can do the following in the settings menu – Change Primary Project, change password or Change Location. To access your settings, click on the Settings menu and select any of the submenus to perform an action.

Capture Location Settings

For some projects, admin can specify if agents will need to specify a location where their device is capturing from before they can proceed. For such projects, user will be prompted to select a location before any record can be captured on that device. User can also visit the setting menu subsequently to see which location is selected, or to change the location.
